July 12: Travel Day

Pre-College students begin their travels to Shanghai. Please see the Travel Information document in your digital locker for details regarding the escorted flight.

July 13: Arrival Day, Shanghai

Arriving from a first-session Pre-College Program:
Students who are traveling from Pre-College Madrid, Paris, or London travel with a Putney staff member or escort to Shanghai. Please see the Travel Information document in your digital locker for details.

Arrival on campus:
Students traveling from Los Angeles on the escorted flight land and transfer with Putney staff members to our Shanghai accommodations. If you are meeting us at our residence in Shanghai, please plan to arrive between noon and 3:00 PM. A Pre-College staff member will be there to welcome you when you arrive.

July 13 – July 20: Shanghai

Our residence in Shanghai is a centrally-located modern hotel a short walk from the Bund riverside, with easy access to parks, restaurants, markets, and the city’s vast transportation network. During the day, students explore Shanghai with their seminar groups, working in teams with the guidance of their Pre-College instructors.  All students take a day trip to Nanxun and a two night excursion to Anji Province.

July 21 – July 22: Anji Province

Anji Province is the top bamboo-producing region in China and a large percentage of its forest acres are designated for conservation and wildlife preserves. Here, we take a break from the hustle of city life and spend time hiking, talking with villagers, and getting to know the more rural side of China.

July 23 – July 26: Shanghai

July 27: Departure Day

Departure from campus:
Students on the escorted flight travel with Putney staff members to the airport and on to Los Angeles. Please see the Travel Information document in your digital locker for details about the escorted return flight.  If you will be picked up at our residence in Shanghai, please plan to depart campus between noon and 3:00 PM.
